As we haven’t seen any such magical sword so far, the fans have started building metaphorial parallels in the show’s heroes. for example, Daenerys Targaryen lost her first battle on water and then, second at Casterly Rock aka Lion Sigil House Lannister’s heart.
Any Relation to the White Walkers?
Yes, if you believe in prophecies. According to it, The Prince That Was Promised will play a crucial role in defeating the White Walkers and the wights. Thus, it gets crucial to find who is the prince that was promised. Finding the person’s identity is important to everyone in the Seven Kingdoms.
What Are These Very Important Prophecies? What Do They Say Exactly?
The first one says the following:
“There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him.”
While, the second states the following:
“When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”
These prophecies provides the clues in determining which characters are the probable people who can lead Westeroes to victory against the army of the dead.
Who Are The Characters Fulfilling These Prophecies?
The top two contenders for the role are Jon Snow (aka Aegon Targaryen) and Daenerys Targaryen. Jon actually believes in the White Walkers and has dedicated his life in fighting them.
Dany fulfills the second prophecy perfectly. She sat in a fire with her dragon eggs, emerged from the smoke, and was reborn as the Mother of Dragons. However, Dany doesn’t love swords, so if Lightbringer is literally a sword, the first prophecy is going against her.
However, looking metaphorically, she has dragons who breathes fire and they burn anything and everything. So, it’s going to be one of them.
There is a lot from Jon too. He was literally reborn/resurrected when Melisandre brought him back from the dead. There is more which fits perfectly into the picture. For instance, Ned leaned Arthur Dayne’s blood-stained sword over his bed when Jon was born.
That sword is said to be made up from the ‘falling star.’ Some people believe it to be the bleeding star from the prophecy. Some argue that the ‘waking dragons out of stone’ refers not to literal dragons, but to Jon himself. He is a secret Targaryen and has to realize that he is a dragon and not a stony Stark.
There is one more plus point for Jon. It’s in the books and Melisandre says, “I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R’hllor shows me only Snow.” It’s a huge one and can be admitted.
However, there are many more theories which ranges from Jaime Lannister to Hot Pie. They are expected to be The Prince That Was Promised. But there is a huge possibility that it could be Jon or Daenerys.
